I have Sennheiser HD595's connected to a Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty sound card. If I'm watching a movie on my computer or playing a game, am I better off setting the X-Fi settings to surround sound(even though I'm using headphones), or should I use the built in CMSS-3D feature? Thanks in advance.

I use setting called "CMSS-3D Headphone" for games and movies. Turn this off for music.

You would use CMSS-3D. Surround sound would send 5 channels out...and you would only hear 2 of those

Because 99% of music is inherently recorded in stereo. Some people may like artifically adding the surround effect, but you're just messing with the original signal.

Are there certain songs that would benefit being put in CMSS-3D, such as live songs?

Up to you. CMSS-3D may increase the sense of spatial depth...which you may or may not like.
