OK, I know you can now buy a few things AMR, I'm just curious if there are any CMR modem/network cards even available? I'm NOT interested in buying one.......just curious as to if any are even on the market!;)

Isn't it CNR not CMR?

I haven't seen them advertised anywhere (thank god).

hey I'd buy a cheap AMR/CNR card. $5 or so for a NIC would be fine with me. If I'm going to pay the same as a PCI NIC $15 or so, nope. $5 for a modem would be okay with me too.

So you're saying that to save $10 or $20 you're willing to waste 10% to 20% of your CPU? Because that's what you accomplish with AMR/CNR loading your CPU down with more Software implementations of real hardware.

A 56k modem loads a average CPU 2% these days, how much CPU power do you think it is going to take to maintain a 10M or 100M connection?
