cmos settings error on first bootup

I just built my first pc and on bootup I'm getting this message:
CMOS settings wrong
CMOS date/time not set
Chassis intruded
Fatal error...system halted

I tried to clear the CMOS, however I don't know if I did it right. I cleared the RTC RAM (CLRTC) because manual says the jumper allows me to clear the RTC RAM in CMOS. I moved jumper cap pins from 1-2 (default) to pins 2-3 and kept it that way for 10 seconds...then moved it back to pins 1-2. On bootup I'm holding down the delete key to enter BIOS, but it doesn't get that far as I'm getting the same errors as above.

Any suggest on what this may mean. Also I'm getting three beeps on bootup. I checked my memory and it seems to be seated properly.

Any suggestions?

Try seating your memory again. 3 beeps usually indicates a memory problem. When installing, you should hear a clicking sound when pressing down, and the side clamps should engage.

Lioness, tell you what has worked for me. Turn off your power supply and unplug it from the wall. Press the "Power ON" switch on the front of your computer several times (to get rid of any residual electricity). Then remove the battery from your Mobo, put your jumper in the 2-3 position and go have a long coffee.
Give it half an hour or so and then put everything back to where it was and turn the power on. -- should work! If by any chance it doesn't, repeat the process and leave it for a couple of hours or overnight.

I'm having trouble removing the battery. There is nothing in the manual that refers to anything about this battery. I've googled to find a picture or at least some directions on how to remove it. Can't find anything. Also, can I touch any part of this battery without shocking it? It must have a retaining clip or something. It's in a difficult spot to get at and see.

The CMOS errors on first bootup are normal, no need to take the battery out - this just triggers another CMOS error ...
What you actually need to do is enter system BIOS setup, load the "optimal" default set, browse through the pages and make your choices, save, and exit.

Your system has chassis intruder detection. You need to close the case before attempting to start the machine.
