CMOS Problem

I was deleting some software through the Add and Remove Software in the settings screen of Win 98SE as I restarted the pc the only thing I got was a "CMOS Wrong" error. I couldn't find the Harddrive (Maxtor) anymore. I tried several things including changing the IDE cables, checking all cables etc. and nothing.
I put the drive in another PC to see if it was the drive. Nope The drive is fine. What can it be ? Thanks for the help.

Did you try resetting to the default bios settings by using the jumper on your motherboard? That happened to me once and I had to do it to get it to reboot at all. Check out your motherboard manual on the cmos jumper location.

Well I didn't try that yet. I can go into the BIOS and it sees everything else except the HD. If i use the LOAD DEFAULTS , will it reset the bios?

I believe it will accomplish the same thing. Usually for me I can't even get that far to get into the bios setup program and the jumper is my only option.

No, you have to find the set of jumpers on your mobo, just look in your manual. Unplug the power cord from the back of the psu, switch the jumper from 1-2 to 2-3 for at least 5 seconds, switch the jumper back, replug the power cord up and boot into bios. That's it.
