CMOS problem

On a PII 233 machine, I accidentally changed the clock setting to 266 and rebooted. The machine startd up and hung. I was not sure whether this was because it couldn't find the correct chip, based on the CMOS setting, or had I actually trashed the chip.

Nothing came up, no monitor, no keyboard. I have tried to discharge the burn-in AMI BIOS and restarted to no avail. I have tried to take out the CPU, the MEM, and put them back in, nothing worked.

Do you guys have any idea how'd I resurrect this dinasour?:p

Yes, there is.

I turned off the computer. Set the jumper to discharge the BIOS. After a while, I put it back to normal, and restarted. It didn't work. The computer would hum when turned on, and start checking something with this "dadada" sound. The CD-ROM and CD-R LED would flash. Then it just hangs.

im not saying this will fix it, but ive heard somewhere that on some motherboards you have to unplug the atx power connector then clear the bios (about 10 seconds)

some intel boards wont clear bios if the atx is still connected (dont as me why, or even if its accurate, just something i read)

**** edit oops i said atx but i meant just the ac power cord from the back of the powersupply, although i guess atx plug would do the same thing :) ****

Thanks.

I did try that too, although I just unplugged the computer from the outlet. I guess I could try to unplug the power supply to the mobo. Anyway, if that doesn't work, I guess the Chip ain't alive any more.

:) Time to upgrade.

Does the machine power up but not beep?

I had a problem similar to that with my P2 233 and found out it was the PS. The thing was just dying and I ended up replacing it.
