Cmos clock stuck?

I have a new HP dv1000 laptop which has a "stuck" real time clock. If you go into the bios the current time value does NOT count up at all, it just sits there. Once in XP, the clock will begin to tick and does so with fairly good precision. However, once you power down then back on the clock is left where you last manually set it. It does NOT reset to 12:00am like one would expect if the cmos battery was faulty. If you change the current time in either the Bios or WinXP, that new value is held next time you restart.

I have tried flashing by bios to the current version, but no change. Any ideas?

If it's still under warranty contact HP. What I would do for kicks is to remove ac power and remove the battery and try to boot it effectively discharging it and possibly resetting it.

WT-. Contact HP. Low CMOS (or any, really) batteries or batteries putting out the incorrect amounts of power can do wierd things, but I have never seen that before. The notebook CMOS batteries are too expensive to slip another one in to test, so go ahead and see what they have to say.
