CMOS Checksum error??

I have a motherboard that was lying around a few weeks and when it came to install it, it would detect the mounted devices and then give me this message: "CMOS checksum error - Defaults loaded". After that, it would just freeze and won't let me do anything. I can't even enter the BIOS before that message is displayed. Also, the beep that the computer speaker makes when the computer is first turned on sounds like a slurred beep. Is this sort of problem due to a grounding on one of the mounting posts? or is it that my CMOS got corrupted somehow (static?)? Or whatelse could be the problem?

Care to say what brand of MB that is? That and what BIOS it has, what things you have done to troubleshoot, etc, will go a long way towards helping others help you.

did you clear the CMOS ? try that

Tried that many times with no luck. Hopefully it's only the battery that's causing this problem. BTW it's a Abit KX7-333(non-raid) board.
