CMOS Checksum Error

I bought this mobo from Monarch. See my sig for system specs

I am doing my initial POST mobo/cpu/memory/video bootup test.

I noticed that everytime I switch my PSU off then back on, it seems to clear my settings (date/time resets back to 01-01-2005) and that error "CMOS Checksum Error" appears. I press F1 to set default settings, and then it normally boots ok, even after a reset and cold start. But its when I switch the PSU off and then back on this error happens.

Is that whats suppose to happen? Is my CMOS battery dying? How can it be, this motherboard is suppose to be new.. I tried clearing my CMOS too and reseating the battery..

Either the battery is dead, or you've left the "CMOS clear" jumper on Clear.

bad cmos chip not holding its info or bad circuitry from the battery to the cmos would be my guess
