Hi all heres a rundown of my system:
GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor
MSI NX8800GTS-T2D640E-HD OC GeForce 8800GTS 640MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card
CORSAIR CMPSU-520HX PSU
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory
Western Digital Raptor X WD1500AHFD 150GB
Windows XP SP2
Alright, I had a Seagate HDD in there and it was working fine until I heard some unusual clicking sounds and pretty soon I started seeing some odd errors. After doing some research it seemed that I got a dud for an HDD so I decided to step it up a notch and purchased a Western Digital Raptor X since i've heard they are great. Got that, threw an hdd cooler on it and installed it into my system with no issues or so I thought. As soon as I try to fire up the pc with the new harddrive installed I notice that my video card is not operating, the fan wasn't spinning so that tipped me off but my CPU fan was spinning. Anyhow after making sure the power was good to the videocard I try again, and get the same result. Next I try taking out the videocard and reseating it and try to fire it up, what do you know it begins to work just fine.
So anyways I fire everything up and everything is working, format the new hdd and install windows. Everything seems to be going fine, i'm doing a bunch of reboots, installing software and what not. I shut down my computer for the night and the next day go to fire it up, turn it on and look inside (i have a window on the side of my case) and I notice nor the CPU fan or the video card is spinning. Well after I hold down the power button to shut 'er down two times they decide to start working fine and once I get a display i see a CMOS Checksum Error. Well I think I selected last known good setting or whatever it was and now the PC seems to be running fine. I am not feeling confident about my PC though since out of nowhere I can see this issue coming up again. Any suggestions on what I should check or anything at all would be greatly appreciated. This is my first serious build and is only a bout 5 months old.
