CMOS Checksum Error - Defaults Loaded

I have just tried booting up my newly built computer for the first time, but I couldn't get into BIOS because an error keeps coming up:

CMOS Checksum Error - Defaults Loaded

I can't do anything, it won't let me hit the Del key after that message.

Whats the problem?

MY SYSTEM:
Abit Kg7
512 DDR PC2100 Crucial - 2 DIMMS of 256MB
Athlon XP1700

PS - I have already checked the DIMM connections and checked to see if I put them in the correct slots, and still no resolve.

Clear the cmos and try again. It usually involves moving a jumper on the board.
