<< I was wondering what battery I should replace with my "dead" battery on my ecs k7s5a board? I heard the panasonic cr2032 is good, but what type because on radioshack.com, it lists a variety of types. 2-pin, 3-pin, vertical, horizontal?????Any suggestions on how to replace the battery because I've never done it before? >>
Funny you should mention this, because I just replaced the battery on my K7S5A about ten minutes ago. I had one "checksum error" in 2 months, but decided to make the change anyway.
cr2032 is, nowadays, a battery type. I just went to the RadioShack store and said, "I want a cr2032 lithium battery." Cost was <$3. He sold me a Radio Shack brand battery, which for all I know, could be a Panasonic.
I unplugged the system, stuck it on an antistatic mat, started the humidifier, put on my wrist strap, and used a small flat-blade screwdriver to pop out the battery. While I was at it, I pulled up the bottom leaf metal contact a little, to ensure electrical contact. Then I slid the battery in under the front metal clip, and pushed down the back end with a slightly creepy amount of force, and the battery popped in. Since the system has nvram, I didn't even have to reset the BIOS.
The clip that holds the battery is said to be fragile (in that one or more people have reported breaking the clip free). But, a lot of things on the motherboard are fragile.
