CMOS battery broke off!

I have an asus A7VX8-LA mobo. The cmos battery is mounted sideways and go bumped and broke off the board. The board still works fine. If I unplug the computer or there is a power failure I have to manually enter the date/time. All the default setting are okay though. Does the battery do anything other than store the NVRAM data?

Thanks

A tech can replace the Battery Holder for you ... they are readily available about the diameter of a quarter coin (maybe a tad less)
Only problem is it needs to be soldered to the motherboard

yup, other than losing custom settings and the time, it will be fine without it.

more of a pita than anything else.

if you have custom settings you want to use (that would be lost due to the missing battery) look for cmossv38 here, it will save your cmos settings to disk once youve set then up and will automatically load them at boot. Its dos based but you could boot to dos floppy after a power failure to restore the cmos settings, then reboot normally. it doesnt save every setting, but gets the most important ones.
