ok, i come into work today and within 15 minutes of my sitting down and having a meeting with my manager, a developer comes to me and says "i need your help, my Q, A, and Z keys doesn't work anymore!"

i go by and take a look. indeed, it doesn't work. i hit the num lock key and a character came up. WTF?!

he tells me that oh, his keyboard was dirty, so he took it and rinsed it in the bathroom the night before.

*mumbles*

Actually, keyboards should still work after being held under a running faucet.

yeah, lotta ppl say you can do that.. so long as you ARE PERFECTLY SURE its all dry. But i don't think it does much.. i took all the keys off my keyboard.. and like a weeks worth of soaking would be needed ;)

Yeah I've done it twice before, and everything was OK. Of course, results may vary :D

(edit: to clarify, this wasn't full power hot water hitting the keyboard, it was just a very slow stream of cold water over the Kool-Aid :)P) covered part of the keyboard)

I love how people will come get you and complain something is wrong with their computer while neglecting to tell you that they did something really stupid to it right before it stopped working.

Co-Worker: "My computer doesn't read files off of my floppy disks anymore."
SmiZ: "Did you do anything to it since the last time it read the disks?"
Co-Worker: "Not that I can remember."
SmiZ: "Are you sure?? Nothing at all?"
Co-Worker: "Well yesterday I thought the pilot light went out so I stuck a lit match into the A: drive. Would that cause a problem?"
SmiZ: *Forehead SMACK*

i always cleaned my keyboard that way... but then, keyboards are pretty cheap so i just replace mine with a new one and give my old one to idiots like that developer (that's sad, i'm calling a developer an idiot )

Hehe Red and the snow man know what its like ;) I get keyboards nasty enough to have to wash them off all the time.....sufficient drying time is the key. Of course that big air compressor in teh garage helps too :D
