CM Wave Master Dual 92mm mod

This is what the front dual 80 setup looks like on a Wave Master. It comes with two 26 CFM fans, but mine came with dual 38CFM, high speed 80mms. Needless to say, they are basically miniature leafblowers in terms of noise 😉 However, if you look closely at the picture, you can see a bit of a gap between the fan and the side of the drive cage. Hence, 92mm fans. You might need to cut the 4 side screws so the fans will fit. This won't affect anything. Also the HDD may have to be moved back a bit to make clearance, and the 92mm fans will have to be drilled to be screwed to the OEM 80mm holes. However glue works too 😉

I chose two of these NMB thermistor fans, since I had good experiences with these in my Dell in the past. Prices were good too at $5 a pop.

If you want to try this mod, Akasa Amber fans are also very good, as well as Panaflo Low speed and models from Sunon. AC9025s are good too, if you don't need RPM sensing.

I chose not to use screws as I would have had to drill holes in my case/fans, so I just used some melted hot glue. Secures well and probably offers a degree of vibration resistance too, not to mention they aren't too hard to get off.

Srry, been very very busy with school lately, will do as soon as I can which should be in a few days at the very latest

For intake duty those NMBs from The Winder will have to have the thermistors jumped then put on a controller. I have several of'em and they will rip 69cfm each. At 7 volt they are kinda quiet but not really. IIRC they will undervolt to 5V. It's been awhile.

They will need to be sealed to the front intake and the sad little holes behind that vertical bar will have to be opened up. That's a pretty case with a bogus intake.

Search THIS Forum, in the archieves for WaveMaster. Read the longest thread you find. If after making an honest attempt to find it and you can't...PM me and I'll find it & link it here.

Thanks GY; I already opened up the intake holes quite a bit so Ihave 2 big holes now. I'll see about sealing them, and I did read that WM thread several times 😉

Fans with thermistors are generally for exhaust duty only unless the intake air is being heated by some other source. As G-Y mentioned, you will want to jump the thermistor and put them on a controller (as those little NMBs really honk when you cut 'em loose). Unless all you want is a little quiet breeze on the HDDs.

Ok, Pictures up...Thinking about sealing the fans to front intake holes later on as well as disabling thermistors. However for now each fan should pull around 30-35 CFM since they pull 25CFM at 25 degrees C. 60-70 CFM into my case is more than sufficent for now since I rarely even run at 2.66 GHz anymore due to C&Q being on. Most of the time this comp is just used for basic tatks like word processing, spreadsheet, etc, since school has started. That means no games until Xmas at least 🙁
