I'm actually not completely sure if this is a hardware or software problem, but my keyboard is acting odd.

Anyways, I have the CM Storm Quick Fire Pro keyboard, and it suddenly is deciding to malfunction all the time. A message will pop up in the taskbar saying the device is not recognized, and that it has malfunctioned.

If I go to the device manager, under the USB controllers, the keyboard is shown as an unknown device.

Things I've tried:
Uninstalled everything in the USB controllers in the device manager

Unplugged my PC from the wall to allow the mobo to stop receiving power and shutdown. Temporarily fixed it the first time, didn't fix it this second time.

Had the USB cable that goes from the keyboard to my PC replaced by Coolermaster, this seemed to temporarily fix it, however it just returned after about 2 weeks. This is what makes me think it COULD be a hardware problem?

Things that make it malfunction:
Moving the keyboard around. This is super weird to me because I just had the cord replaced, and I'm assuming my keyboard is receiving power still.

Do you have a laptop or anything else to plug the KB into to see if the same thing happens? That would tell you if it's hardware/connectivity.

I tried plugging my keyboard into a different computer, got the same USB device not recognized, it has malfunctioned.

Could the cord be causing a short? I literally JUST had it replaced. I never mistreated the cord, I never tugged on it when moving my keyboard around.

So what do you guys suggest? Should I RMA it? I've had it for less than a year and have the receipt to prove it.

You should RMA it, could be the controller as postmark suggested. Let me know if everything works out for you :)
