I recently purchased an I7 950 and slapped a Hyper 212 plus on it to keep it nice and frigid. It would hover around 29c-31c at idle and wouldn't break 50c-51c under prime95. I snagged a zalman cnps10x extreme off of Craig's list for dirt cheap and swapped it out. Now I'm idling around 33c-34c and up to 57c-59c! Now I know these are fine temperatures, but the zalman retails for 3 times as much, has a faster fan, and more heatpipes(I know falling prey to gimmicks), is this just a case of poor thermal paste application or is the 212 a better performer?

Both used as5 thermal paste.

What vcore are you showing on that cpu? I've been researching the 212+ and the numbers are all over the place even at stock speeds nevermind OC speeds.

She's still at stock. (played around with 3.7ghz on the 212 but not for more than a day).

and BoomerD, that's interesting... I may give it another go. I will say this, it is significantly louder, even at its lowest setting. That is compared to the 212 with TWO 120mm fans.
