CM Elite Series + V8

I plan on changing my case to a CM Elite 335 and getting the CM V8 for my Phenom II X4 965BE.

I checked out the specs, height restriction (needed to be sure it could fit the V8 and the video card I wanted), and everything turned out ok. It can fit an 11" card (sacrificing one HDD) like the Antec 300, and is half the price. And the clearance for the CPU HSF is 166.6mm, while the V8 is a little shy of it at 161.1mm.

However, when I looked at the product sheet, I saw that there is a side panel chassis air duct, and it looks to me that it would definitely block tall CPU HSFs. (having an air duct that blocks tall CPU HSFs is the main reason I want to change cases from an Astone Enforcer).

It seems misleading to state the clearance for the CPU HSF is 166.6mm if it doesn't take into account that fact that you won't be able to use that much of space at all due to being blocked by an air duct. Anybody know if this is indeed true (so no V8 if I choose the Elite series cases), or perhaps the air duct is actually optional and removable? (the manuals don't say anything about it)

Thanks.

Thanks, SinxarKnights.

My current case has a non-removable air duct, so I wanted to be sure I don't get the same disadvantage upon switching to a new one. I say the air-duct is unremovable because the entire duct is attached to the grill (they are, in effect, just one piece), so removing the duct means also doing without the grill, leaving a big gaping hole in the side of the case AND no way to mount the side fan (mounting holes were on the grill).

Thankfully, the CM Elite 355 does seem to be more sensibly designed. Thank you very much for that video.

I have this case in question. I also used to have the V8.

If you remove the duct assembly the V8 would just barely fit in the case. The side panel actually does rub on it. Well at least with a S775 setup anyways. It worked but just had to be careful when removing or replacing side cover.

Thank you for the warning. Perhaps I should get an HSF that is slightly shorter, like the Hyper 212.
