Planning to overclock ivybridge i5 3570k to 4.2-4.5Ghz maybe more
The price is about the same for a Cooler Master 612 and v8.
Which is better? Noise and temps

I think the 612 has more heatpipes and is newer. I'd imagine the 612 to perform better than the V8.

Comparison:

V8

price: $59 (newegg)
weight: 866g
number of heatpipes: 6 each side
fan RPM: 800 - 1800

612 PWM

price: $50 (newegg)
weight: 806g heat sink + 104g fan
number of heatpipes: 6 each side
fan RPM: 600 - 2000

I would pick 612 because it's cheaper, slightly heavier and has a wider PWM range.

EDIT: if you value quietness, also consider Scythe Mugen 3. Similar to 612 but the idle fan speed can be as low as 300 RPM.

Oh my bad, the V8 has 6 pipes, I thought it had 4 for the longest time.

Hmm, why do I have the same image linked for both. Fixed now.

Now I'm deciding between the Mugen 3 and 612 :O
The mugen might be able to go lower rpm but what are °C differences on load and idle?
