Clueless Me wants to know how one wears this belt

Anyone know how to tighten such a belt ... tried all permutations and combinations but it will not stay taut. What am I missing?

from right to left, under the right-most bar, then over the belt material, and under the left most bar.

now loop back, left to right, over the left most bar, and then back under the right-most bar and pull it snug. that looks like it should work.

It looks like a woman's belt, something my wife would wear (especially now since she's pregnant and it'll sit right above her bump).
 
I have a similar belt that came with a pair of shorts. Even tightened correctly that fucker won't stay tight for more than 20 minutes.
 
Had one of those for years & could never figure it out.
Glad it was a gift, but my ex had to do it for me every time... lol
