So I'm talking to a guy about building him a gaming rig and he starts asking me questions about lighting characteristics. I politely admit my ignorance, tell him I'll check it out and we move on to other stuff. I got nowhere with Google ...

So. What's the deal?

I've got a general understanding of the fans and the tubes and the colors and such, but how do you design a lighting package that's high on aesthetics? I know beauty is in the 'eye of the beholder' but are there any tips or tricks I should be aware of before I embark on this new adventure?

What does blue wire conduit look like under cool blue light? Does it turn black? Does red wire conduit turn black under red lighting? Does black conduit tend to disappear?

Let's say your dual slot vid card has a black fan shroud with silver flames. Does the silver on the video card fan shroud pick up the red or blue (or green?) case lighting? Does the black color of the shroud tend to disappear under lighting?

What about the PCBs? Does a red (or blue) PCB go black under lighting of a similar color? Do copper cooling fins look better under red lighting or do aluminum fins look better under blue lighting?

Will a combination of different types of lighting ever compliment each other? What about those wacky slot colors for your RAMs?

Most importantly, is there something that you might have tried that resulted in a Fabulous Flop from a lighting stand point?

Any links or pics yah might have on this whole color scheme thing would really help. Is there a link here I might have missed? Thanks.

If you look in the Anand gallery (stickied post) you will find several nice looking cases with lighting, I have posted a few of my own builds there and do like the "bling" lighting gives. One suggestion though, no matter what you choose for lights be sure to run a master switch for all so the lights can be shut off w/o shutting down the PC.
