Clubbing baby seals?

BurnItDwn

Lifer
Why do people club baby seals?
Why not shoot them, or use a slightly less inhumane method?

Also, what's the purpose of it? Just for the skins? Or for the seal meat? What?
Also, if it's for the seal meat, is it tasty? Where can I get some?

Some pics that someone pointed out on the web for me.

I used to just think it was some type of a joke, but it appears to be real.

Bloody Seals
For some reason this one made me sad.

Bullets cost money and damage the fur.

Plus you risk the chance of some idiot shooting himself (or someone else).

Clubbing is just as humane as a bullet, & far safer for everyone else involved.

And the areas that do this have a serious overpopulation problem, they aren't out doing it for sh!ts & giggles. This is no different than mowing down entire herds of deer in areas with deer problems, but people bitch because seals are cute & furry & don't eat their gardens.

I vote yes on mowing down the deer and baby seals.
How's come no one clubs baby gorillas?

As much as I hate to say it.. its true.. in greenwich, ct, this year, they hired a bunch of snipers to take out deers.. there are some serious over population..

At a meeting Wednesday with the legislature's Environment Committee, a DEP wildlife official also suggested the General Assembly consider increasing the number of weekend hunting days and allow the hiring of sharpshooters to thin the population. Dale W. May, director of the wildlife division, said many of the state's statutes are more than 50 years old and have not kept up with technology or the growing number of deer.

?We don't have a functioning balance of nature in Connecticut anymore,? May said. ?The bottom line is, we need to manage. We don't have any choice.?

But animal rights advocates claim the department's ?management? of deer is actually causing the population problem.

Julie Lewin, of Animal Advocacy Connecticut, said the DEP should let nature take its course. As the state allows hunters to kill deer in the fall, it reduces competition for food in winter and essentially encourages the remaining females to breed. Female deer are less likely to give birth if they have no body fat, Lewin said.

?If they stop hunting, there would be far fewer births,? Lewin said. ?Nature will find its own balance according to the food supply.?

In New Zealand they machine gun entire herds from helicopters, chain the carcasses together & airlift them out. The meat gets donated to shelters & food banks.
