clothing material question

deciding weather to buy a shirt with 50% cotton/50% polyester or a shirt thats 100 percent cotton

1- which will shrink less?
2- Which will retain its color more after being washed?

any other pros and cons for each shirt type?

Cotton shrinks more, retains body heat more, wrinkles more, and loses color faster.

Polyester Blend is all the opposite, but is not as durable.

100% cotton!

1. depends on what you buy. pre-shrunk 100% is pretty common.
2. color retention depends greatly on how you wash it and with what detergent.

what does pre-shrunk 100% cotton mean anyways? does it mean it wont shink as much as 50% cotton/50% polyester ?

pre-shrunk has nothing to do with its relation to other blends, but that it wont shrink much, if at all, after laundering. want a good example? a customer of ours brought in a red polo-style shirt. 100% cotton. we typically handwash these without a problem.

it shrank, and looked like it belonged to a 7-year old. turns out it was a "dry clean only" and the moran paid $100 for it. thats right, 100 bucks for a cotton shirt that couldnt stand up to a wash. if its pre-shrunk, it wont shrink *that* much, but its still possible.

polyester will hold its color longer, its more durable than cotton and should last a bit longer. i wouldnt expect significant shrinkage problems with it, but most shirts we get are 100% cotton, or more like 70/30 cotton/poly.

personally, i dont like a heavy poly blend and am more comfortable in cotton. but, if you want something with a brighter color, the color should last longer with the blend, and it should be a bit more durable in the long run.
