Clothing for Hot Conditions

No i'm not talking about intimate situations...

My buddy works at a restaurant as a chef and it gets extremely hot in the kitchen. He's in there for about 6-8 hours each shift. Is there clothing that would keep him cool or at least for a time? Does HeatGear from Under Armor work?

Polypropylene or other light synthetics. Breathability is key. Cotton is not bad, but as soon as it gets moist, it loses its ability to breathe well. I would look at an outdoor equiptment store, and look under mens sportsware designed for the summer. If it can keep you cool when you jogging in the sun, it works wonders when standing still.

Or a G-string (beware of the deep fryer)

I once had a Hawaiian-style shirt that was made of some kind of extremely breathable material that was like a sponge. I could wear in in any heat and it would keep me cool. It disappeared and I never did figure out what it was made of.

I recommend the nike dri-fit clothing. Every athletic label has a dri-fit line was stuff. The sutff wicks sweat away, is really comfortable (like scrubs), and breathes really well.
