Clothes Dryer Too Hot?

Murpheeee

I have never paid much attention before, but I grabbed some clothes out of teh dryer last week while it was still going.....and they were surprisingly hot. So hot that it was umcomfortable to carry them wearing a T shirt (bare arms).

So that kinda shocked me and I have been paying closer attention.
Last night after about 30 mins of starting to dry a load the top of the drier was too hot to touch.

Is this normal?

The dryer is about 15 y.o. and I know that the $$ to get it looked at I will be half way to buying a new one....

This could mean a few things - none of which implies that your dryer is broken. The most likely explanation is that you're simply drying the clothes too long. As long as the clothes are damp, the temperature will not sharply increase. The heat will cause the water to vaporize and leave the dryer. After all the water is removed, however, the heat will begin to just heat up the clothes. This is a waste of time and energy. Try just shortening the length of your drying cycle.

Check the air vent, it might be clogged.

also make sure you only use metal vent products. Never use plastic or even the aluminum foil looking stuff.

Check the dryer vent and replace it if necessary. Also try and get to the mechanical area of the dryer with a vacuum. It's problebly full of lint causing the whole dryer to heat up.
