Broker has asked us to verify income with last tax returns from past 2 years. Would you do this?

Returns are .pdfs generated by Turbo Tax, but there's the worry of people getting info to support identity theft etc...

Bad idea to email tax info or "making too much out of nothing"...

WHY or WHY NOT?

Ehh, you're pretty much fine in this day and age. Personally I prefer to fax sensitive information, but either one is a toss up.

Email PDF of your taxes... are you nuts? That's wide open for identity theft. Provide them with a paper copy if you have to.

This is pretty normal these days. I originated my mortgage with US Bank and refinanced with them a year later. They wanted two years of tax returns both times, even though they were the same returns. Lenders are being really careful.

password protect the pdf and give him the password over the phone?

Not amazingly secure, but should be enough to help with your paranoia.

doesn't your broker already have all your info?

what do you think he'll get out of your tax returns that he doesn't already have?

I work for a mortgage company. I am surprised how people insist we don't need their SS#, to know their salary and that we should just take an older credit report from them because "nothings changed".

OP...email is inherently insecure, but sending a PDF you should be a bit better off. Personally I'd just fax it. While it's easier to intercept, it's doubtful anyone would be tapped in to your line or their's.

They are going to need this information though.
