I'm trying to build my NAS unit out, but the second hand case I have is missing a few drive caddies I need (It's a coolermaster HAF 932). So, I go online to buy a few drive caddies and find their online store is closed for maintenance until the beginning of the year.

WTF?

How can you close an online store for multiple weeks and not offer an alternative to purchasing the items? I opened a ticket and the responder said I just had to wait until January to get the items I wanted for my build. The caddies are not available on ebay and the few other places I found charged a premium for them so my options are rather limited.

So I'm stuck for now unless I want to ziptie the hard drives in place for the time being. First world problem for sure, but still frustrating that there's no alternative to getting the items I want. I'm only spending $40.00 or so for the items so I'm not a big spender, but still........

You mean they want to spend time with their families for the holidays? Shame on them! If only there were Amazon, Newegg, Tigerdirect, etc.

I'm all for spending time with families. But for two whole weeks, everyone who can do anything with the store is off? Doesn't add up.

It's like closing down every business for two weeks to "spend time" with your family. Shit like that doesn't happen. That's why you can take vacation time off but not everyone at the same time.

It SHOULD happen. It is greed that prevents it. While I really doubt that is what is going on in this case, I wouldn't fault them for it.

There are shit tons of industries that close for 2 full weeks. Almost all our factories in the world are closed for the last two weeks of the year and we just make sure we schedule customer deliveries around that.

News flash: the world doesn't revolve around you.

This. We're closed next week and so many people are taking the following week off that the rest of us might as well not bother showing up.

Not jut engineering either - we have a new guy starting, (sent him an offer a couple weeks ago) and HR wouldn't let him start before the second week in Jan., since nobody would be around to do the prehire paperwork.

But why close the online store for 2 weeks? Why not leave the store open but inform you that shipping will be delayed for those two weeks?

because you would have more than 50% of those people not read about the delayed shipping and cry like the OP when they don't get the item immediately.

plus imagine the order backup they would have.

they obviously have made a calculated decision to close it that is better for their business had they kept it open, otherwise the business probably wouldn't be around.

It is an online store. It probably is one guy shipping out of his garage and he wants to take some time off.

Kudos to this business, I know I would like to have 2 weeks off.
