Closer than many of you will ever get to a live spark plug..

Thought it was a neat pic, figured I would share.

Taken with my Canon PowerShot A60.

🙂

Edit: And yeah, I realize that's small beans to any of you seasoned high voltage tinkerers around here.. But I'm just getting started.. 😀

how much power is going through the plug, the plug i had hold was attached to an ignition system of a ford falcon..the coil can generate 25kilovolts acording to the big fat warning decal right above it

I have absolutely no idea.. As you can see from the other pic I posted, I was just using an old small engine magneto..

Probably only 15 - 20kv at the most. I'm only driving it at ~4 volts @ 3A.. but it will arc through all 6 of those vacuum tubes on as little as 1V with the right timings..

Hopefully I can get rid of the relay and use a 2N3055 transistor instead.. but I'm having difficulties for some reason.

I'm not sure how much power went through me but it was enough to throw me 10 feet and leave my right hand side completly useless for 9 hours..the doctor said it was one hell of a shock but i would eventually get use of my limbs again, my hair stood on end for about 3 days, by crikey it bloody hurt..all i really remember is my dads laughter, he reckoned it was the funniest thing he had ever seen..bastardo

lol..

It's not the voltage that matters, it's the amperage..

Have you ever touched an electric fence? They give you more of a jolt than an ignition coil, and are only ~2-10kv IIRC.

I've been zapped by a sparkplug. I was removing a boot when my dipshit friend tried to crank the engine over. MotherF'er did that hurt. My arm was numb for an hour. I've also been very close to ground zero of a lightning strike. All I saw was a white flash. I didn't even hear anything. I was holding a screwdriver at the time and saw electricty shoot out the end of it.

Heh - that was my dad's preferred way to shut off an old graden tractor with a bad ignition switch - just grab the bare plug end to ground it out. I was to much of a wimp after the first time and used a screwdriver to short it to the block 😛
