Turned the electricity on with a phone call. Silly city requires that I bring in an application with the escrow statement and a 50 dollar up front deposit before then can turn on the water though. Not sure if that is standard or not.

My timing with perfect. 91K total at 4.95% APR. :)

I need to call the cleaners tonight to get them in before thursday. My washer, dryer, and fridge should be delivered on saturday. Once the ernest money and VA appraisal fees are refunded to my account, I'll pick up a range and dishwasher.

If everything goes according to plan, I'll move a few loads of small stuff in on Friday in my car and the big stuff in on Saturday. Should be 95% moved by Sunday.

91K? Slick, that wouldn't even buy a decent 1 bedroom condo around here :p Good APR as well! Good luck with everything - is this your first home you've purchased?

Yes. Qualifies me for the new tax credit next year. :)

We filed an amended return to get ours this year :D We closed in March after we filed so we're hoping to see the credit come through soon. I'm sure you'll be looking forward to next year's tax season :D

thats awesome, congrats!

We're actually refinancing today. We bought our house last year in November, and we got a 6.5% 30 year fixed rate. That was a good rate at the time. Today, we're refinancing it at 5%.

I think it was TLC that has a show My First Place or something similar. On a recent episode they had a 21 YO student that was working part-time, living at his dad's place. He wanted to move out and his budget was $300K - $350K! How the hell do you pull that off working PT?

Paid only $86k for my 1,150 sqft home, but the purchase price was really $78k. We took out an extra $8k for a completely new heat pump+install and new carpet through the entire house + install. No realtors involved, just the me and the seller. The seller needed to dump their mortgage payment or they would have to default on the house, so I offered what they owed on it.

Well, change of plans. The paperwork got to the title company late, so they weren't able complete it today. It looks like tomorrow will be the day I get the keys.

I just got off the phone with Cox to transfer my Internet service, addressed an insurance insurance between my current and upcoming provider, called SRP to get the juice flowing, and finally, the cleaners are coming on Thursday evening. Just need to fax the paperwork to the city tomorrow morning to get the water turned on and things look good on that front.

My washer, dryer, and fridge are scheduled to be delivered on Saturday. Since payday is Thursday, I'll probably buy a range and try get that delivered on saturday too.

My thoughts too. 100-250 dollars per sq foot to construct and they charge us 3-5k per square foot to buy. Appreciation, supply, and bad mortgages really made Jersey uninhabitable.

Bateluer, I'm envious. Good luck!

Congrats! Definitely got a good price/interest rate.

I've been waiting for over a month and a half to close on my house. The closing date is set at "July 8th or sooner". As I'm sure you can relate, waiting for it to happen sucks.

Remember where the places real estate is cheap. It's the places no one wants to live.

Nice, congrats!

I recently bought a house as well, I get the keys next Friday, can't wait!

And that reminds me, I need to call the gas and hydro company to switch it all in my name. Not sure if I have to do anything for water.

Got the keys today. The electricity in on, had to fumble with the outside fuse box a bit, latch was bent, had to bend it back with my hands. Water wasn't on when I was there, but it should be on before Thursday. I have cleaners scheduled to be there at 1800 Thursday. I'll meet them, let them in, talk for a bit, then leave for my evening run, stop back at my apartment afterward, fill my car with the smaller boxes, then head back to the house . . .

Friday afternoon, I'm going to clean the carpet myself with a good steam cleaner. Having the cleaners do this added to the price more than my simply renting the cleaner and doing it myself. Saturday, some friends and I will be moving my larger stuff over. The washer, dryer, and fridge are scheduled to be delivered sometime on saturday as well.

Need to determine the situation with the trash service and where my USPS box is. I saw three banks of mailboxes in the area and their all labeled 1 thru 12 with no addresses on them. The solid waste trash can and the recycling trash can look to be filled with unbagged yard waste, possibly dumped in there by a neighbor when the house was vacant. Probably have to bag that crap myself to get the city to pick it up. :( Hopefully, there's nothing alive in there, have to pick up some work gloves too.
