HI
Because of a severe hearing loss I use the closed caption feature on my old crt tv. Even though I wear hearing aids the sound quality on the vast majority on tv’s is rather poor and listening to the dialogue can be a challenge. .
I am currently looking for a new tv. I’ve settled on the size of 46 inches. Jury is still out on getting a plasma, lcd or led screen.
My biggest concern is using the closed caption feature.
Does anyone here use the closed caption ? And,, what suggestions do you have on using the closed caption.
Thanks

HI
Thanks for the info. At one time there was a problem with the cc box burning a shadow into the lcd screen. Same with the plasmas. I would hope that with the improvement in technology and materials that the “burn in” has been eliminated or lowered substantially.
What makes it hard is when I go into a store to look and ask to see how the cc looks on a particular tv, I just get a blank look from the salesperson. LOL
Thanks

Burn in isn't an issue unless you do something really stupid like leave it on for half a day on a frozen screen. Just be sensible and it is fine.

The tvs in stores might not get over the air or whatever signal that has cc, sometimes they are just playing a video loop of in store content. Most should be perfectly fine, the panasonics have tons of fonts and the rest to choose from even.

I don't know a ton about CC, but my sister is deaf and we turn on captions when she comes to visit. I do know that our Toshiba LCD does display captions, but turning the captions on was a little bit of a challenge on the first attempt. On our CRT in the bedroom all you have to do is press the CC button on the television's remote, and they pop up, the CC content is enabled on the analog signal by default. The LCD is connected to the receiver via HDMI, apparently the CC content is not enabled on the digital signal by default. I have to go into the setup menus on the receiver and enable captions, turning the captions on or off through the menus on the television make no difference. If I'm using the Blue-ray as a source it's the same deal, I have to enable the captions from the Blue-ray menus, using the CC button on the television remote doesn't do anything. If I was watching broadcast channels with a set top antenna I assume the CC button on the television remote would enable the captions but I've never tried watching OTA broadcasts.

well yea if you use a source like bluray the bluray controls the cc.

ota there is no bluray player or anything, so the tv controls the cc. standard behavior since dvd, only analog cc is embedded in the picture so the tv can find it, it was an inferior method.
