Watching it right now at SyFy HD. Wow can't believe it's been 35 years since it's release. Amazing story/effects.

Perhaps time for a reboot and of course similar storyline with CGI? Spider-man, Batman, Total Recall had reboots in less time. What do you think?

35 years. And hell no to a remake. I love it the way it is. I hated the 1980 re-release with the inside of the ship crap. Spielberg was pressured by the studio.

They can try to reboot but I'm sure it will suck. Part of the magic of older movies like that is we had to use our imagination to fill in certain voids that special effects just couldn't deliver.

Make it a comedy. Richard Dreyfus is dropped off in NYC 2012 after the aliens got tired of him.

It ain't 1977 anymore. Now he has to figure out A world that has changed over the last 35 years.

Lots of potential comedy.

I've always wanted a sequel. Maybe like CEOTTK- The Return (2015). Imagine what worlds main character (CGI version) has visited without aging a lot. Setting Earth 5000 years after he left, not sure how fast that main spacecraft can travel. Different world he visits comes back to and even forgotten. :awe:

Part of the beauty of CEOTTK was the unknown. Even after neary leave we know nothing. I like that. A sequel would destroy that.

Sequel would suck and to even propose a CG abortion remake is a insult to the original. See the Prometheus thread for why this is a dumb idea.

We're so used to the concept of aliens now that I don't think a reboot would work.

The original is still surprisingly watchable.

I'm still reeling from Hollywood remaking "Total recall", it was released in 1990, the special effects are/were fine IMO and you just not gonna come close to Arnold/S. Stone (in her prime) to play the leads. It's not a given that a reboot or sequel will suck but IMO %75 of them usually do..

The film has a pretty horrible message and hasn't held up over the years....

Dead Beat Dad: The Motion Picture..

Tired of reboots, write new material Hollywood. It isn't that hard to do.

How about this: Instead of reboot after fucking reboot, try writing an all new story. How hard can it be?

A Logan's Run reboot would be nice. Great movie, great story, shitty effects.
