Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind

There's apparently talk and rumors of someone in hollywood looking into doing either a remake, or a sequel to "Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind" sometime in the near future. I'd prefer the sequel cause you can't touch the original. 😀

If this is true, which would you vote for them to do?

I'd go for it only if they let James Cameron do it.

yeah me2...i'm skepical about the new terminator movie cuz cameron was against it...so he didn't direct it..hopefully..(but most likely it is) they didn't fvck it up... 🙁

Leave the original alone. The Collector's Edition cut is one of my favorite movies of all time.

I'd be interested in seeing a sequel but it would probably never come close to the original.

So if Spielberg does a remake, will all the soldiers be carrying walkie-talkies?

OrooOroo: Yes, by today's terms it is indeed overrated and old hat, but back when it was released, we all thought it was pretty amazing, particularly the ending.

Haven't read a single post but neither is leading by a large margin so I guess many people didn't think it was that great of a movie. Anyway, it was ok but I don't think I'd watch it again.

I love that movie. Just out of curiosity, why wouldn't you want Spielberg to direct it?

I wouldn't want anyone to direct it as I don't think it should be made. Leave well enough alone, you're not going to improve on the original. Sequels generally suck and remakes are even worse. But if it did get done, I wouldn't trust Spielberg to do that style of movie anymore. He's at opposite ends of the spectrum these days and can't seem to do anything that isn't either a cutesy-poo kid flick or some vast, bloated, self-indulgent tripe with a social conscience. If he did CE3K now it's either have some E.T.-ish aliens playing with kids or some long-winded preach-fest with the aliens visiting to teach us the errors of our ways and keep us from destroying the planet. He doesn't seem capable to of capturing that same sense of wonder anymore without crossing the line into cartoon schmaltz.
