I wouldn't want anyone to direct it as I don't think it should be made. Leave well enough alone, you're not going to improve on the original. Sequels generally suck and remakes are even worse. But if it did get done, I wouldn't trust Spielberg to do that style of movie anymore. He's at opposite ends of the spectrum these days and can't seem to do anything that isn't either a cutesy-poo kid flick or some vast, bloated, self-indulgent tripe with a social conscience. If he did CE3K now it's either have some E.T.-ish aliens playing with kids or some long-winded preach-fest with the aliens visiting to teach us the errors of our ways and keep us from destroying the planet. He doesn't seem capable to of capturing that same sense of wonder anymore without crossing the line into cartoon schmaltz.
