Past Lifer 1957-2014 In Memoriam
Sat on a bench in the park this afternoon on my way back from the dentist. There was a flock of geese surrounding me. Various ages. There were many young ones still wearing their grey fluffy uniforms instead of feathers. Their neck was noticeably shorter than the adults.

Also present were 'teenagers' with almost complete feather covering in the appropriate colours but still a few patches of the fluffy grey down. Finally there were four adults. On of the adults had a ring around one leg. The others were too far for me to check if they were ringed also.

All this happy bunch was eating grass like there's no tomorrow. Sometimes an individual would come within a couple of feet of me. That's the closest I've ever been to geese. If that was a youngster, the mom (or dad) would remain a few feet away with its neck stretched perfectly vertical, keeping a wary eye on me for maybe a minute, then deciding I was no threat and resuming eating grass.

I felt very at peace surrounded by these birds but I had to leave after a few minutes. Also saw two families of ducks on the river and a little black bird with bright red 'shoulders'. (Edit: It was a Red Winged Blackbird.)

Sometimes I feel like I should always carry my digital camera.

Here are some pics I took a few years ago in that same park where I take my health walks. I've also seen squirrels, swans, seagulls and a beaver there.

When I'm golfing I can get real close to the geese on the course (a few feet). It seems they get real used to people. If I get too close they start hissing.

our ducks had ducklings, and the one male goose we have decided its his job to protect them so it attacks people now

god i hate canada geese

you must be an Airbus A320

I had a really close encounter during a Banner tow pickup.
Something spooked the geese and they flew up right at me as I came in.
I did a quick maneuver to avoid them, but the grapple hook is flying about 15~20 feet below the plane and I scored a direct hit. My ground crew said the goose went into the lake like a lawn dart🙁

My 8 year old decided to throw rocks at the geese at the lake last weekend. One of them attacked him and took a pretty good chunk out of his foot. I think he learned his lesson on that one 🙂

Give that goose a medal. WTF did that goose do to your brat to warrant him throwing rocks at it?
