Close Encounter with DUI

verbose version:
I was about a mile from home, with my wife and son in our Explorer. I was waiting for a guy in front of me to turn left at a light. He missed a couple of chances and then sat through the protected turn arrow. When the light turned green again, I honked and he started to pull out without the protected turn. Almost caused a crash. NOT FUN to watch.

At this point, we all get the turn and about 5 cars make the left hand turn with the drunk in the lead. He puts on his right hand bllinker, and pulls over to the curb. I pass and start putting distance between me and him. He pulls back into traffic, and somehow manages to serve badly enough to jump the curb and lose a spinner or two. He then gets back in the flow, and I turn off to completely avoid this asshole.

At this point he turns into a residental area. I circle back to get his license plate. Another car is also following the DUI while on their cell (I didn't have mine with me). Both of us follow the DUI through the neighborhood and watch him as he errantly navigates a curve in the road and hits a car parked on the other side of the street. He continues on, but is driving very slowly, coming to complete stops for no apparent reason.

Finally, the cops come and block him off, he was only about 1 block from getting to an street with fast moving traffic.

obligatory cliffs notes version:
1) got annoyed by a person who later proved to be DUI
2) in a matter of minutes, the DUI jumped a curb, hit a parked car, almost caused a serious wreck.
3) followed the DUI until cops arrived

Good for you, had something similar happen to me once. A woman going the opposite direction from me swerved as we approached each other & clipped my mirror with hers, I called the police on my cell phone & they had me follow her. About 10 minutes later, after much swerving and curb-cleaning vie tire on her part, they caught up with us and I watched as they pulled her over - she was in a bad way, could barely stand when she got out of the car. When I first started following her she had someone following her, presumably a friend looking out for her, but when he noticed me tailing her he was gone ;)

good job.

atleast teh cops came fast.. i have had situations where 911 hadnt responded for over 20 minutes. By then i had gotten from woodland hills to Hollywood. When i finally got thru, i was on sunset and 101, i told them he is on the streets, and is drunk.. and going this direction.. she goes "contacting LAPD with information" and in teh distance i see a car light up its lights and coming towards me.

At that point she said you can now break it off.. i followed him to the next block and took a right.. when i popped a uturn on the side street the guy had been stopped..

You would think that when people drive drunk, they would at least try to avoid police attention.

If the friend REALLY cared about her he wouldn't have let her drive :|

What's wrong with people...you DON'T. DRIVE. DRUNK.

Glad you did your part to keep them off the streets...

I wish the sorry SOB would have driven off a cliff or a brick wall and saved us any future relapses. I have ZERO tolerance for drunk drivers.

damn reading that just pisses me off. I wish i was there so i could have pulled the sob out of his car and beat the living hell out of him. There are very few things that enrage me but when it comes to DUI/DWI i have no patience or tolerance.

I wish I had my cell on me last night - saw a dumbass wiz by me at leat 20 mph over the speed limit and almost ram a car. Speeding loser then gets some major road rage on and started to tailgate the car he almost just hit and pulls next to him weaving wildly swearing at him. I followed him for a little while, but he just sped away (still driving like crap, but not causing TOO much trouble).
