Cloning HDDs - couple questions

Just curious, but i have the maxtor utilities on disk and one of the options is for drive cloning...i have strong reason to believe that this works for even non-Maxtor drives, right?

how effective is it?...i have norton ghost as well...i used to use xcopy to "clone" drives...it works, albeit not a perfect clone...

which is best?...

A clone is a clone. Maxtor utils will make a perfect clone, as well as norton ghost. Norton ghost has a TON of useful features like network ghost etc. XCopy is not a perfect clone, and it is much easier to use a true clone program.

However, I think this is on the wrong forum.

xcopy isn't perfect, it's a file by file clone. In most cases this is good enough, but it's not a perfect copy.

Ghost is a sector by sector HD copy (Drive Image is bit by bit if you care 😛 but it doesn't really make a difference), as is Maxtor's, unless it manually blocks non-Maxtor drives, it should work as well as Ghost.
