I have a Dell laptop that the USB ports are not working on. It has a 320gig 5400rpm Segate and I want to clone the entire hard drive to including the restore partition to a 750gig 7200rpm Hitachi Travelstar.

Since the USB ports are not working I need to remove the hard drive from the laptop and install it in a external USB enclosure and do the same with the new Travelstar and connect them both to my desktop.

I usually use Macrium's boot disk and just clone the drive via USB but have never tried to clone a drive with them removed from the computer I am trying to clone the drive from. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Cloning one USB external to another should be no problem. Since they will be connected to your desktop, they are not actually without a computer.

I have never used Macrium Reflex - but assume it can do a proportional clone job with different size drives.

Yeah I have never tried it. The owner broke the tab on one of the usb ports. Never seen one take all of them out.

Guess I will give it a whirl and see what happens. Thank you for the reply !!!!
