I have a Cable Matters USB 3.0 to Dual-SATA Hard Drive Docking Station with Standalone Clone Function that I am using to clone a 240GB SanDisk II Ultra to a 960GB SanDisk II Ultra Drive.
The smaller drive contains all my files and OS (Windows 10). When I clone the drives the new larger drive works as required BUT because of the nature of cloning it makes an exact duplicate... which means it copies the boot partition in the same partition order... leaving the extra space flapping in the wind at the end of the drive, separated by 2 partitions (both recovery related).
Window 10 won't allow me to merge the boot partition with the extra space because they are not adjacent. I have tried 2 programs that claim to be great with partitions (AOMEI Partition Assistant and MiniTool Partition Wizard). Once the merge is complete and I reboot the computer the windows installation errors out, the message on the screen says that auto repair will begin and then tells me it can not fix it and cycles through the same stuff over and over.
So, any suggestions? Can I delete the recovery partitions, merge the newly adjacent partitions and then create a recovery partition with the Acer software like originally set up? I have the old SSD as a backup if necessary but I don't want to do this if it definitely can't be done.
Input please... I'm trying to get back to work and at this point I'm tempted to just leave in the old drive until I get more time to try again after I get back from vacation at the end of the month.
