On Win98 or W2k?

I use CDcreator for it's music edditing features and DirectCD to transport files.

But, nothing beats CloneCD for backups of software and games.

Sometimes CloneCD will work and other times I get errors and I'm sure that the two programs conflict. I know there is a utility to let Nero and Cdcreator coexist, but how about CloneCD?

Any suggestions much appreciated....and please! Let's don't turn this into a "[insert name of program] is POS" thread. They are all good and I've legal copies of all three.

BTW, Cdcreator was installed first and works fine....at the moment..;)

I use both Adaptecs and CloneCd and also Cdrwin and don't have a problem in win2k. Do you have the latest version of Ezcd from the adaptec website. I think its 4.02. Do you run both of the programs at the same time? I only run one of the burning programs at one time.

Also not a problem, CDRWin, Nero, EZ CD, Blindwrite/read, CloneCD...... However I do believe Direct CD can cause some issues with other programs.... I recommend you uninstall Direct CD and just use Nero.

yeah i think dulanic nailed it... DirectCD is the devil, and usually doesn't like to coexist with nero..... i have to mention.. this was a while ago(before i had W2K) and it was a much earlier version of Nero/DirectCD.(so the problem might have been addressed)

DirectCD only conflicts when it's running in the background. Run MSCONFIG and uncheck it so it doesn't start up when you boot. When you need it, start it from the program menu, and close it afterwards using control+alt+delete.

I have Nero, clonecd and adaptec directcd running fine this way.

Thanks all!

I'd control/alt/delete shutdown directcd, but I'd not though about MSCONFIG. I'll give it a try.

Easy CD Creator, DirectCD and all the other recording stuff from Adaptec has been sold to roxio and they have updated all of their software. Go here to get all the updates...

http://www.roxio.com/en/jhtml/support/webcheckup.jhtml

EZCD is now past 4.03 and I think everything else just got an update also.

One last thing... I never installed DirectCD because I couldn't figure out what it could do that EZCD couldn't. Anyone know? I can copy files or whatever I want with EZCD... why install DirectCD?

With DirectCD you can use a RW like a harddrive. It automatically 'opens' the disk for file transfer, then when you eject it it 'closes' the cd so any cdrom can read it. VERY handy!

BTW, not loading DirectCd at startuo solved my prob....or was it the firmware upgrade?;)
