how come the source location moves whenever you click away from it? like lets say u select a spot you want to clone, like a piece of skin, and then keep clicking to make the rest look like that....why does it move around?

the clone tool basically does a copy/paste of the area that you select as the source.

In other words, let's say you select the middle of a parked car as your source, then start applying the clone tool elsewhere. As you paint away, you'll eventually draw the entire car. Once you let up on the mouse, it will try to match the colors around the edge so that the cloned portion isn't obvious.

for most uses that gives the desired effect. if you pick one area of skin and try to reuse it for the rest of a large area it's not going to look right.

I use this tool alot in the office when I get associate pictures that are cropped wrong. I can expand the palette and then clone the background horizontally and vertically around the picture to fill it out.

My clones listen to all of my commands. You may have a discipline problem.

Uncheck "aligned". In PS7, it's on the adjustment toolbar where you can change brush size and such.
