I just tried to use the FULL version of clone cd and Clone CD Database to cop "no one lives forever". It all seemed to go well, untill it got to the burning. I tried with three different games and cdrs. Everytime it gets to 3% of the burning, then freezes, and I get a nice Coaster! Please help! I have a zipcd 12x10x32.

Update: I have tried several other similar programs to Clone DataBase, and they all do the same (stopping at 3 %). I have tried cloney, perfect copy, and a few others!

UPDATE: Will Lowering the READ SPEED HELP>?

Update:

<< Snoop : Do you mean the DMA on my reader, or writer? >>

<< Wallysaurus: How do I find out if my burner is compatable. I haven't found anywhere that says it isn't though. >>

<< papillon: Where can I get playback? >>

<< cpumaster: Why do you need that information? I am wary of giving people information unless I know what they will use it for. >>

Just so everyone knows, with my ZipCD all the drivers came in the same "install program" as EZ CD and Direct CD. If I uninstall these, I don't know if it will uninstall my drivers!

Try reading and writing from the burner rather than reading the CD from a CDROM and then burning (shouldn't make a difference, but I have cured alot of burning issues this way).

I've also had several disks that just plain would not copy unless I turned the read speed down to 2x and also lowered the write speed to about 8x.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with copying "no one lives forever" so I'm not sure what kind of copy protection it uses.

Also check out GameCopyWorld.com, They offer alot of info about making your legal back-up copy of your games.

First of all, have you checked that your burner supports CloneCd? (i'm assuming that it does)

Second, No One Lives Forever - isn't that a SD2 copy protected game? (Edit: confirmed) If that's the case, it may be very problematic - but not impossible - to copy properly. The new SD2 protection has been giving non-Phillips based hardware problems. You can go to the unofficial CloneCd website Forums for a constant discussion of up to date protection defeating schemes.

here

Remember that there's a difference from a true "backup" that will be read in any reader to a "backup" that will only be read in the burner itself.

Go to the forums and you will learn how to defeat SD2 and get a working copy of NOLF.

There is an add on to CloneCD called Playback that might help you defeat the protection. You can find out about it on the CloneClinic forums that bill showed you. Good luck!!!

yeah. I can burn stuff perfectly well with Easy CD Creator. But it won';t let me make the back-ups of some copyrighted games. Clone cd can let you do that.

It did for me. Using clone CD and a Plex 12/10/32a, I was able to copy my microsoft games that would not copy otherwise.

Nkcowboy: I had a similar problem to yours, I fixed it by turning DMA mode off.

Nkcowboy,
Are you sure your writer is compatible with CloneCD? I was unable to find it in the hardware requirements.

No on lives forever is safedisc2 . To copy this with clone cd if your burner is not compatable you need a program called Play back,(win 9x & win me only). If your using win2k a prog called insektor will allow backups.I have used playback and it works it also allows update patches to be applied.Remember only backup discs you already own.:);):p

Open log file while you are burning in CLoneCD to see whats hanging your burn process. More than likely you ar encountering write errors.

just on the writer :), for some reason clonecd sometimes runs into problems with DMA mode. My writer worked perfectly using adaptec and nero with DMA on, but clonecd would freeze up while writing. So try turning the DMA of your burner off and see what happens ;)

go to the unofficial CloneCd website and check out the supported hardware link on the left hand side to see if your zipcd is supported.

then check out the usa/english forums and post there if you can't get satisfaction here.

as for playback, it's probably on the site I just linked you, look for more cdr software link on lhs of page. If not, ask around forums or do a search with google.com/whatever

as for cpumaster, I think he is kidding. Of course, never - ever - give out personal info unless you are totally certain it's okay.

personally, lowering burning speeds has never been an issue with me. I've never had a situation where something did not burn at max speed and by lowering the burning speed to 4x or 2x (whatever) has made the burn successful.

If you still want to learn more about the capabilities of CloneCd then you can also go to www.cdrinfo.com and check out the CloneCd review which is fairly good.

good luck.

Nkcowboy,
Your writer isn't listed in the hardware requirements for CloneCD. Try opening Clone, click on the CD to CD button like you were going to copy a CD, click on the "Write" tab, and then click on the button at the bottom that has the "i" for information. This might tell you whether your writer is compatible. Oh yeah, what version of CloneCD are you using? Good Luck.

The CloneCD Underground link that bill_n_opus gave you is a real good place to go for help with CloneCD.
