Clock spider Q

You guys have seen it, it's that HUGE freaking spider behind a guy's clock.
Does anyone know if it's real or where it came from?

ARG!

question that's never been answered...what species is it? Why haven't I seen this in pet stores or running amok around the food chain?

We've def. seen that pic. I think it's real.

: ) Amanda

I think it was an AT member who originally posted that PIC IIRC 😕

I remember someone said it was from Canada posted by a guy on a Counter Strike forum or something......

But I showed it to my friend and he said, "I'm not stupid...I'm not buying it. It's fake....blah blah..."

So I want to show him that it's real.

During my tour in the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic I lived with spiders bigger than that every day, so I say it's a real spider.

Well it's not the size that's an issue really...just that it's in someone's house and on the wall I guess. I don't know if he thinks it looks fake or what...he's kinda dumb about stuff though so who knows...

I've seen Funnel Web Spiders that were easily twice as evil looking as that and 50 times more aggressive, I'll wager! Those Funnel Webs don't play. They will jump on your shin and dig in (that's actually a song from Down Under that many children sing).

I say BS, there are no spiders that big also if you lived with spiders bigger then that everyday I would think you would know what kind they were???

There is this spider that keeps making a web in a little pathway leading up to our front door. We have to pass thorugh it and it sucks to get their webbing on your face/hair/clothing. So I took out a cigarette and started blowing smoke into the spider. Then took the lighter and started burning the web. Hopefully tomorrow, the little ah heck will have made another web for me to blow smoke into. hehe. Sorry PETA.

Think about it cowboy.

Uhh...I was asking if anyone who was reading my post knew if it was real. That's like asking "does anyone know how to solve this problem: <insert problem here>"
Of course someone can solve it, but that's not really the answer they're looking for.

So there.

It's a wolf spider and I'm pretty sure it's real. An average Carolina wolf spider grows to about 1 1/2 inches (body length) and this one seems to be about that size.

The legs on this sucker are really long, but if you notice the screw coming out of the wall in that pic and compare it to the spider it doesn't seem as big as it looks. I think that might just be a pretty small wall clock he was hiding under.

Look at the wood trim around the window, it about 2in wide that would give the spider like 8in from leg tip to leg tip.

I dont think so.

They don't actually catch birds, it's just their name 🙂 :

The Goliath Birdeater, Theraphosa leblondi, is a tarantula, and it is the largest spider in the world. Despite its name, the Goliath Birdeater does not eat birds; it eats invertebrates such as crickets and mealworms, and also small vertebrates such as mice and lizards. Native to South America, these spiders can be as large as 30 centimetres (12 inches) in leg span, when their legs are stretched out. You can see an approximately life size photograph of this huge spider here. The Goliath Birdeater is one of the few tarantulas which can catch, kill, and eat a full-grown mouse.

I believe that some spiders do catch birds like Eli said. Insane...

How in the HELL can you kill a spider that big when it's in your house. You can't shoot it (unless you want to blow a hole in your wall), you can really step on it. If you smash it, it might jump at you and eat your face. You can try and put a bowl over it but you'd need a popcorn bowl and then you'd need a brick on top of it before it flips it over and eats your face.

Good lord!

I ought to club it and eat its skin! That's what it gets for trying to eat my face!
