I am honestly surprised by how fast this happened. But good for the players.

A judge had already ruled, a few weeks ago, that the sale was legal and could go through, as Sterling was found mentally incompetent due to Alzheimer's. So, this was just a formality. Once that ruling went through that he no longer had control of his trust, the sale was already made and the NBA just had to accept it.
I think this worked out well for the NBA, as they didn't have to force Sterling via the courts (or, at least try to force him; I don't think they would have won) to sell the team on his own accord.
I think it only worked as far as keeping racists closeted. This has done nothing to rid the league of racists, if that was their goal.
Well said - though having seen the value go from estimates of a half billion to a two billion dollar sale, I too can't help but wonder if we've all been played. If they are the kind of closeted racists who can't even share their racism with their girlfriends, then it becomes sort of a tree falling in the forest with no one to hear it type of situation. The idea is to stop people from acting racist, not to police their thoughts.
