BEIRUT – U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says Lebanon should not tolerate any attempt to discredit the U.N. tribunal investigating the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

The State Department said Clinton spoke to Lebanese President Michel Suleiman by phone Wednesday.

Speculation that the tribunal could indict members of Lebanon's Iranian-backed Hezbollah has fueled a political crisis in the country. Hezbollah contends the tribunal has been poisoned by witnesses who have given false information.
Hariri, Lebanon's most prominent politician after the 15-year civil war ended in 1990, was killed by a truck bombing.

Meh. The UN is so virulently anti-Israel I can't imagine it conducting an honest tribunal, let alone a competent one.

Like the Kennedy assassination before it, I very much doubt anyone will be able to prove who assassinated Harri.

But the point was, almost everyone assumed, when Harri was assassinated, that Syria did it. Now we have reached new heights as some point fingers at Syria, some point fingers at Hezbollah, and recent released evidence information points fingers at Israel also.

I hope they do have a tribunal to fairly investigate the who killed Harri question, but I hope they don't repeat what amounts to the Warren commission mistake, by going way past the dubious evidence to come to a single conclusion that does not fit the facts.

To this day we still are not sure exactly who killed JFK, the only thing we are sure of is that the Warren report is very flawed.

Israel is going about committing repression.

Not sure what you are saying here.

On one hand you can make the very dubious statement of, "Israel is going about committing repression.

Or you can make the same more accurate statement of "Israel is going about committing repression?

But what does that have to do with who really assassinated Harri?

Will the conclusions of the tribunal be universally accepted as true, or will the tribunal rely on possible dubious and perjured evidence?

That in my mind is the question. And we can also ask, even if gold standard evidence is uncovered that either Syria, Israel, or Hezbollah did it, can we condemn a huge group for the actions of a few misguided individuals?

If so America stands forever condemned for the actions of Benedict Arnold, Israel stands forever condemned for the actions of the Jew who assassinated Rabin, and why should Hezbollah be any different?

As for me, why should any of us prejudge the conclusions of a given investigation when we want one outcome or another?
