Is anyone getting climateprediction tasks?

I've been unable to get tasks, and am not sure what I'm missing (Virtualbox, or sufficient RAM), or whether they simply don't have much computing that needs to get done.

cpu aside, my box is somewhat low end, limited by 8GB RAM, and I don't have Virtualbox installed.

It definitely is intermittent. But I haven't tracked too closely what precisely is available when, because the long run times require only occasional reloading.

https://www.cpdn.org/server_status.php is showing right now that only the "UK Met Office HadAM4 at N216 resolution" application has unsent work.
https://www.cpdn.org/apps.php in turn shows that "UK Met Office HadAM4 at N216 resolution" is only available for the Linux (x86-32) platform.

From what I remember from occasional visits to the CPDN forum, there appear to be longer periods during which no work for the Windows applications is available. I didn't pay attention because I have Linux (x86-64 with 32 bit compatibility layer).

Thanks Stefan, that explains it. Thank you for looking into it!

(The longer uptime for a typical unix box and absence of surprise windows upgrade reboots is maybe why only these large tasks are available on linux. )

While it should be OK to shut down and restart a computer during these long tasks, I definitely see worryingly many failures after restart. Therefore I am indeed trying to avoid restarts of the computers on which I run CPDN.

Right now, I have CPDN suspended due to the WCG Birthday contest, but I have boinc configured to "leave non-GPU tasks in memory while suspended".

I guess most elegant would be to run CPDN on a client within a virtual machine, which can be "softly" suspended and resumed anytime without a shutdown of the boinc client and the science application.
