Climate prediction

Currently 8.11% into phase 3, God, it seems like this program is taking forever.
I promised myself I would do one complete run and then it's back to D²OL for this rig. whew!!!

That's the reason why I droped it. Even my 3200+ needed about 3 weeks to complete a full run and I had two in a row that were aborted in the mid of phase 3 and turned out to have been a useless waste of my CPU time. And the devs of CPDN don't even try to improve the code of their DC, like adding HT support or anything like that. That's also why they keep getting less and less results send back.

I guess the idea of the project is very good but its realization is just poor. Basically they just ported a super computer cliamte model to x86 structure and took some heavy features out so it'll run at all. And sometimes I really doubt that it makes sense to waste energy and CPU power on a forecast of the climate in 2050 if the energy waste of the CPUs crunching it isn't taken into consideration at all and wouldn't it be much more effective to find a way to stop pollution and FCKW instead of just calculating what it'll be like in 2050?!

Just my 2 cents. 🙂

CPDN is currently making BOINC-versions, so of course they're not wasting their time adding HT to the current version. 😉

BTW, according to this CPDN should very likely reset their stats.

Yeah I suppose I'll have new stats for BOINC and just show the top few hundred of "Stage 1 CPDN" or something. I figure if SETI are resetting stats then it should be OK for us.
