Climate change will threaten national security

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/04/15/warmin...tary.ap/index.html?eref=rss_topstories

Excerpt:
The report was issued by the Alexandria, Virginia-based, national security think-tank The CNA Corporation and was written by six retired admirals and five retired generals. They warn of a future of rampant disease, water shortages and flooding that will make already dicey areas -- such as the Middle East, Asia and Africa -- even worse.

"Weakened and failing governments, with an already thin margin for survival, foster the conditions for internal conflicts, extremism and movement toward increased authoritarianism and radical ideologies," the report says. "The U.S. will be drawn more frequently into these situations."

Well the thing is, that if countries in Africa fail, no one anywhere else will care. Why, because they won't pose a threat to anyone outside of Africa. The only countries to worry about are going to be China, India, Russia and Iran. Though in Russia I can see that since the vast majority of their land is tundra, that warming may actually help them when it thaws they will have more usable land for farming food and raising food animals. They could conceivably feed the world and make money doing so, LOTS of money.

Also, military people tend to look at the worse scenario possible. I think that with "global warming" that more countries will work together because it is the only real logical way to over come it and work on reducing the causes of it.

New report, but the findings aren't neccesarily new.

It's been said for several years now that, increasingly, future wars will be fought over water.
