clicking hard drive -- again and again!!!!

I have had 4 Western Digital 80gig hard drives fail in the last month or so - all have developed a clicking sound within a week or two of install. Mostly they have totally failed - no data retrieval - drive not recognized. The last two were in-warranty replacement but refurbs. WD is sending yet another to arrive tomorrow.

could this problem be me (or at least machine) and not wd? I have to wonder but my maxtors run fine/no problem on the machine - ecs k7s5a with amd 2000+ with a 350 watt amd approved power supply - system also supports a cd-rw, cd-r and a second harddrive. The drives click both when the ide cable is attached and disconnected (a little test wd asks to make sure the clicking is not caused by a faulty ide cable)

any ideas?

I would try the new refurb you get in a different computer to see if there's something wrong with it.
Then sell the new drive and get something different. Hehe Call it bad karma or something, but WD drives don't seem to like you.
