Kate Beckinsdale's character doesn't have her English accent.

Looking at Hugh Laurie on House having to do an American accent, he says it's the hardest thing he's ever done.

Is this a hard thing to pull off?

I imagine it would be hard to change your accent. With enough coaching it certainly is possible.

I've only barely been able to pull out a French accent when speaking the language, and that's after years of taking classes to be fluent.

Shouldn't be too hard, I spent half my life in Saudi Arabia, the other half in India. I work as a CSR/TSR and 95% of the time people can't tell I'm a foreigner. I'm not sure if it sounds 'American' or 'neutral' (is there such a thing?).

Ed: Kate Winslet is pretty good at doing an American accent too. Compare her accent IRL to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Hard to tell she's a Brit.
