"complete service records"

What they really mean is that they did absolutely no service on the car. There was no service, and no record of service, therefore the record is complete. Sort of like N out of a possible N = 100%

On craigslist..

"Excellent Condition" doesn't mean excellent Condition.

Or... "Runs"

Then I go see the car and I'm like...."wut?"

Car For Sale - no seat or steering wheel - cheap

Perfect for the person who has lost his azz and has no where to turn.

"it just needs a fuel pump" is what i see all over cragslist. it annoys me.
lol it's probably true. Those things are ridiculously expensive to replace because they are inside the gas tank. A friend had one go out in his car and that's pretty much a death sentence if it's something like a 10 year old Dodge Neon.
Clutch is another one. If you can't do it yourself, that Dodge Neon goes to craigslist or the junk yard.

It's extremely vague. A V8 with only 4 cylinders can be classified as "running."

It can leak like a sieve and be "running."
For sale: Dodge Neon. Mint condition, but needs clutch. Engine runs, but car doesn't move.

Another good one I found when looking for a truck. I found some 80's model chevy trucks. Rough. Not restored. Or even decent condition daily driven trucks for over $5,000

When I ask if the price is negotiable and why so high, I got...."It's an Antique!" 🙄

"Hella fast" or the equivalent nowadays.

Generally applied to some Honda POS which runs low 16's in the 1/4.

Rare! 3 of 500 with this paint color, that color seats, custom wheels, factory cup holders, and a sunroof out of 50,000 total.

All the millions of cars on Ebay, Craigslist, Autotrader, etc are always rare and collectible and limited edition.

Rare in my book is something like a 2000 Cobra R, or the C4 ZR1 Corvette with the DOHC engine or Buick GNX. Or a bone stock down to the factory paper filter 03 Cobra or Supra if you really want to stretch it 😉

Custom wheels is another one I see EVERYWHERE... and they are always some name brand turn key wheels from a well known catalog that anybody can buy. Cant just say SSR GT3s or FR500s, they have to make it out like its some 1 of 1 custom shit because everyone likes to think they are a unique special snowflake. I don't know why anyone would want custom wheels anyway, especially on a used car and you don't know personally who made them. If one gets damaged, youre screwed

These seem to be very common descriptions I find hard to believe, especially on 400rwhp+ cars.

- Never raced
- Nitrous installed, but has never been sprayed

I like "never raced"

Yeah you have a 600+ rwhp car with drag radials, new clutch and input shaft, and diff brace, but you've never put the hammer down on so much as a ricer starting shit? Yeah right.

And I don't care anyway, as long as the car was pampered and maintained accordingly. No reason to lie about getting on it and beating the shit out of it once in a while, wtf do you think IM buying it for?

Haha yea.

What do you think about people that put a fully built, bigger ci engine, turbo/sc, rear end etc. in their cars, then say it has less than 2k mi on all parts? Want to sell cause they're bored with it and starting a new project.

Selling the car for a few thousand over stock, which is normal. Just find it strange you'd put all the work/money into it and sell it right away.

Maybe that is just their hobby? Just see this very often as well, can't judge what they say since I don't do any major work on cars.

It happens. All too often people underestimate the cost of a project like that from the start and get in over their heads, then something comes up and they need money. Or something doesn't work right or they can't get it tuned or it's 99% complete and they can't finish it, moving out of state, baby on the way, good real estate opportunity, etc.

That or if money isn't a problem and they have their own shop or something, the thrill is in building the car. When it's done, it's no fun any more, time to move on to the next project. I'd love a job like that, just building cars all day with no budget or with somebody elses money 😀 Guy I know with his own body shop is like that, he's ALWAYS starting new projects and clearing them out to start something new not a day after he finishes one.

One of my airport friends is like that. He gets the plane done, and I don't know if he even takes it out. It gets sold and the next basket case is in the shop.
