Clerks sucked.

You must be a privileged upper class person who has never worked for minimum wage.

I did actually... actually I worked at a convenience store in New Jersey for 5 years - about as close as you can get to Clerks. ;)

Then you have seen the person who checks the eggs!

It's the people that check the MILK! Not the EGGS!

"the guy"?! wtf, you don't know the characters' names?? ESPECIALLY Jay and Silent Bob. lmao.

I don't know the name of the song, but you can easily find it by googling... it's the same song and same dance from Silence of the Lambs (hopefully you recognized the take-off from that movie)

WARNING: SPOILERS

I saw it on opening night, and I must say I wasn't too impressed. In the week prior to the movie's opening, I kept finding Kevin Smith everywhere I went. Clips from "An Evening With Kevin Smith" suddenly showed up on YouTube, and I subsquently went out and bought the DVD to watch, and I was impressed. However, something I noticed throughout that movie and through almost all of the interviews with Smith was his focus on the dialogue. When someone asked him about the cinematographic style of his movies (namely, there was't one), he said he mainly wrote for dialogue. When he was talking about writing the Superman movie, he said "I'm a dialogue writer," explaining the 80-page outline that was supposed to be 4. Clerks was an amazing movie, not because of the quality or the acting, but because of Smith's dialogue.

And Clerks II doesn't have it. Sure, the LOTR part was hilarious, if a bit late and forced. Also, the jail cell speech was CLASSIC Smith. Even the part where Silent Bob's cue comes up and he's got nothing: perfect. However, the rest of the movie is sorely lacking. The first half of the movie is aimless, searching for a purpose to exist. Throw in a random musical number that, while somewhat funny, came completely out of nowhere and had no relevance whatsoever, and then we actually get into the movie. Dante's relationship with the manager (can't remember her name) seemed extremely forced, and while it's nice that Smith didn't try to beat us over the head with the details, the way it progressed was extremely confusing. And while there weren't many obvious throwbacks to the other movies (a mixed bag if you ask me), things like dancing on the roof (simply because of the hockey thing in Clerks) and Ethan Suplee + Jason Lee's return (but not as Banky or the Boat dude [William or Willow I think?]) were okay, but probably in bad judgment.

That said, Smith said he made the movie he wanted to make. Can't fault the guy for that. I just wish he would have focused on the dialogue, 'cuz that's what made Clerks. I'm a big Chasing Amy/Jersey Girl fan, both considered to be "non-Smithesque" films, and they're good in their own right. However, I can't help but feel that Clerks II SHOULD have been a Smith-esque movie, and there, I think it failed. All that aside, it was still an enjoyable movie- just not up to the Clerks II moniker imho.

I think perhaps one reason why you may not have cared for it is because Smith made a homage to a whole lot of different movies - and movie genres - that you apparently didn't connect the dots to. Else you wouldn't have made the comment thing about the dance sequence - do you really think he threw that scene in there because it was a classical Smith type of movie thing?? Also what do you mean there weren't many throwbacks to the previous movies? There were tons of them, obviously mostly Clerks since this was *gasp* Clerks 2. Hell I would argue that a majority of the scenes had some small something or another that was a throwback to Clerks in some fashion. It is one reason why I am definitely going to buy the DVD because there was so much stuff happening in the background I could not catch it all in the move theater. Additionally I fail to see how Dante's relationship with Becky was confusing - they had feelings for each other, had a fling, she got knocked up, Dante realized that Becky is a better match for him than Emma, the end. What's so confusing about that?

I am usually not the one to tell others that they didn't "get it" in regards to a movie, but from the obvious comments you made in your post I have no choice but to think you didn't get it.

I saw it. It was a logical sequel but a bit profane, gratuitously, imho. The whole A2M issue was odd.

Yeah, that was pretty odd... certainly not something you want the kiddos to listen to and wonder, "daddy, what does a2m mean?"

At least we know that it's okay with Rosario Dawson, if it's in the heat of the moment.

Hilarious movie, loved it.

Meh I just watched it. It was kinda lame IMO. It was too serious of a movie in the sense that it was a love story. It just seemed to have the "clerks" humor mixed in with a serious love story. Then on top of that it went over the top with some parts.

I did love the whole LOTR customer scene though. That was probably my favorite part of the movie. When Rosario Dawson taught him how to dance it was stupid too when everyone started dancing to the music, and there was some group that started to dance. lame.

i give it 2/5.

I loved it. I can't wait for it to come out on DVD so I can add it to my Smith collection.

I liked it alot better than his previous films. All of Smiths other works always ended up feeling like they drug on at the end. I really liked the way Clerks 2 kept me more interested throughout the movie. I mean, you could still feel it start to slow down towards the end, but not as badly so as the others IMO.

I FINALLY saw it. It wasn't as good as the first, but I was lmao most of the time.

The best part was when these 80 year old ladies walked in. The movie started and they were out of there in about 5 minutes.

1st of all the movie's rated R, 2nd of all it's a Kevin Smith movie. If you brought along your children to watch the movie, you're too stupid to be a parent.
