All he needs is for big unit to faulter down the stretch so that he can pass him in K's... What an amazing athlete...

yes, he is amazing. to be his age and just dominating the way he has been.
i dont like the guy. but i respect his abilities.
i would soil myself if i were in the batters box and he were on the mound.

true
when i was a kid i was a huge Nolan Ryan fan.
i still laugh when i see the footage of him putting Robin Ventura in that headlock and wailing on him.

but like i said, i still respect Clemens as a pitcher, not a person. Granted i dont know him, but hes got a rep for being a jerk. always has.

I remember that -- it was awesome. We need more old guys wailin' on whipper-snappers.

Speaking of great pitching. Been a while since there were three games were the pitching was excellent on both sides.

3 1-0 games and one lasted 17 innings.

White sox and phillies picked up the slack for the rest of the teams, though.

I really thought he'd be mediocre this season, but, he's proven me wrong.

I imagine there's a lot less stress on him this year, he's just doing what he is doing because he enjoys it and not under the 'yankee' pressure to win. Good for him.

You don't have to know him. Anyone who intentionally throws a 90+ fastball at someone's head leaves no room for interpretation. Agree that he's a great pitcher and athlete, can't say he's not or I'd be lying through my teeth.

All great pitchers threw at people. Pedro has led the league in hit baters for the past several years. Nolan Ryan was no "nice guy" either.

The Rocket is great and deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

But back in the late 80s and early 90s, when the Boston Red Sox and the Oakland A's were rivals... the A's were the nemesis of the Sox. To paraphrase Dave Chappelle, Clemens' was Dave Stewart's b!tch. :D

No, all pitchers throw at people intentionally, with a few rare exceptions (can't remember Moose ever beaning someone intentionally). But I'm talking about intentionally throwing a fastball at someone's head, there's a world of difference. And I never said there was any special place in my heart for Ryan or Martinez. Pedro especially, what a scumbucket. How's he stay in shape in the offseason, I wonder? Maybe a romp or two through a nursing home with brass knuckles... :disgust:

Actually Al Leiter has a better ERA - 1.98

Unfortunately he has been injured and got no run support from Mets and is only 2-2 after 9 games

Don't forget about the bat incident with Piazza. Throwing a broken bat at somebody is pretty admirable.

Yeah, Moose refuses to pitcher inside. That's part of the reason why people have been hitting him hard lately.

Leiter hasn't pitched enough inning to qualify for the ERA title.
